Little women is adopted from the American movie with the same title, but the Korean version of Little Women is set in today's modern era. It tells the story of three sisters trapped in poverty, where the eldest sister and the second sister struggle to provide for the needs of their youngest sister who attends an elite art school. The two of them tried to get out of the poverty trap that brought the eldest sister one time she found two billion won of money belonging to her workmate Ji Won. Ji Won said she gave the money to In Ju the eldest sister by letter after Ji Won was found hanging herself in her closet with red heels. The problem is further complicated, after In Ju and Do Il who are confidants of the candidate for mayor of Seoul named Park Jae Sang find out that Ji Won stole more than 70 billion won from the company where she worked, which turned out to be embezzled in Singapore. In Ju and Do Il try to uncover all the conspiracies that are behind it.
Meanwhile, In Kyung the middle child who works as a reporter also tries to uncover the conspiracy and rottenness of the mayoral candidate Park Jae Sang. Even though it's hard to be helped by their childhood friend Jong Ho, the two of them try to reveal the truth about Jeong Ran's community. Through the blue ghost orchid flower as a clue which turns out to be leading to the mayoral candidate, Park Jae Sang. In Ju, Do Il, In Kyung, and Jong Ho come together to uncover the truth about Park Jae Sang's corruption and embezzlement cases. In another place, In Hye, the youngest sister, stays away from her two sisters and chooses to accompany her close friend Hyo Rin at the house of Park Jae Sang, who is Hyo Rin's parents. Park Jae Sang's family continues to try to build a good image in front of the people of Seoul and so tightly hides his past which is closely related to his father-in-law, the General Won Gi Seon. Until in the end the truth continues to be revealed, it continues to make Jae Sang's family more desperate, which makes Jae Sang have to end his life and it turns out that all of this is the scenario of his wife, Won Sang Ah.
After seeing the entire short synopsis of this drama, the first thing that caught my attention was the cinematography which was so incredibly good, why? Because for the cinematographic drama class, Little Women can compete with film cinematography. The second is the setting of a place that is not kidding, so designed as perfectly as possible, so that the audience not only enjoys the storyline, but is also made to feel included in the setting of the place that has been designed. Then for the storyline itself, this drama is so well-done and strong. Each scene seems to be intertwined, even though the plot suddenly advances and then suddenly reverses does not necessarily make this drama disconnected. On the contrary, it is made so that the audience does not only watch, but is also required to think critically by guessing what will happen next in a logical way. And finally, about the genre. As I mentioned earlier, romantic genre dramas are considered boring and too clichΓ©. Compared with the action and mystery genres, which are added with a little sarcasm regarding social issues related to government and social inequality, of course this will provoke the curiosity of the audience who may be tired of being presented with the romantic genre continuously. Although there are some scenes that the audience expected where In Ju and Do Il would be dating, it turned out that they weren't, in my opinion, it's a good thing so that the audience's attention is not diverted to the romance scene but must focus more on the storyline presented.
Honestly, combining a lot of social issues in one series with so many strong characters, this Little Women drama makes my head feel hot at times. This series puts forward the roles of women who dare to take risks to protect their families and also dare to reveal the truth that is hidden, even though their lives are at stake. Writer Chung places women in many important roles, even the main characters in the series, as the title suggests. Little Women also made me learn to understand the importance of mental health when it felt like something wasn't right inside of me. Because every tragedy that happens in Little Women is a childhood trauma that grows into hatred.
